Alejandro Melendez: I don't think Atletico Madrid were right for Morata

Alejandro Melendez knows Alvaro Morata more than most people and he doesn't feel as though Atletico Madrid were the right fit for the forward.

Morata is leaving Los Rojiblancos to join Juventus on loan for 2020/21 having failed to really thrive at Atletico, despite being their top scorer last season.

"Morata is a top striker," Menendez told Radio MARCA, "but due to a lot of circumstances where he's been, it hasn't worked.

"I don't think Atleti were the best team for him. I think he's better off playing with teams who have more possession."

Now set to work under former teammate Andrea Pirlo in Turin, Morata will, in Menendez's opinion, find his best form.

"With Pirlo's arrival and that philosophy of football, Alvaro will be helped a lot," he added.

"He'll have more time near the area and more chances to shoot.

"He'll enjoy his football and be keen to show himself.

"He's returning somewhere he's already been and somewhere he knows well. He'll have a more trusting environment."
