Alexander-Arnold can’t wear No. 66 at Real — Here’s the LaLiga rule behind it

If Trent Alexander-Arnold joins Real Madrid this summer, he won’t be allowed to wear his iconic No. 66 jersey.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is edging closer to a shock move to Real Madrid this summer—but if it happens, he’ll have to leave his signature No. 66 jersey behind.

Reports from Spain claim Los Blancos are “fully confident” they’ve secured the Liverpool star on a free transfer when his contract expires.

While Liverpool sources insist no deal is finalized, Reds fans are already bracing for life without their homegrown right-back.

But there’s a twist—if Alexander-Arnold makes the switch to LaLiga, he won’t be allowed to keep his iconic number.

Unlike the Premier League, LaLiga enforces a strict squad numbering rule: first-team players can only wear numbers between 1 and 25.

That means Alexander-Arnold, who stuck with No. 66 since breaking into Liverpool’s senior squad, will be forced to pick a new number at the Bernabéu.

For England, he’s already worn 2, 7, 8, and 10—so one of those could be an option.
