Spanish football fans will be able to watch La Liga matches live on their commute next season after train operator Renfe became the league's official transport partner.

La Liga games, featuring big names such as Lionel Messi, Eden Hazard and Antoine Griezmann, will be made available on board AVE trains through accessing the PlayRenfe content platform for the entirety of the 2019/20.

PlayRenfe is accessible on the Madrid-Zaragoza-Barcelona-Figueres Vilafant, Madrid-Seville, Madrid-Málaga, Madrid-Valencia-Castellón, Madrid-Alicante, Madrid-Granada, Barcelona-Seville/Malaga, Barcelona-Granada and Valencia-Seville/Malaga routes.

Alongside access to all La Liga games, the partnership will also reportedly enable fans to watch main matches from the Champions League and Europa League.

In addition, Renfe plan to include football programming in their low-cost train offer that it currently designs, which will be operational from Holy Week in 2020.

While La Liga have secured one innovative partnership, they are still without a UK-based buyer for the television rights for the upcoming season.

Eleven Sports took the rights for the UK on a three-year deal last summer, but did not generate enough subscribers and gave up the rights.

Bids in the new auction were due on July 25 but no broadcaster came forward meaning that, as it stands, La Liga matches will not be available in the UK next season with the campaign due to start on August 16.
