All you need to know about the Copa del Rey first round draw

The draw for the first round of the Copa del Rey will be made at 12:30 CET on Sunday afternoon.

There will be 111 clubs involved in the draw from the Tercera Division, Spain's fourth tier, to some of the biggest teams in LaLiga Santander.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Valencia will not feature in the first round due to their involvement in the Supercopa de Espana, but the likes of Sevilla and Real Sociedad will be in the hat.

There will be 55 ties in total, with one team from the Segunda Division B, Spain's third tier, getting a bye into the next round.

Unlike in previous years, there will be just one leg rather than two, which will be played between December 17 and December 19.

Artificial pitches are allowed

All the ties involving teams from the top two divisions will be played at the stadium of the inferior club.

The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have told MARCA that teams will be allowed to play matches on their artificial pitches, despite its Extraordinary General Assembly stating that games must be played on natural pitches in April.

Complex draw

Pot One will include the lowest ranked teams still in the competition and they will all be paired with a team from Pot Two, which is made up of exclusively LaLiga Santander sides.

The remaining six teams from Pot Two will mix with Pot Four, which contains all the teams from LaLiga SmartBank, and they will be drawn against teams from the Tercera Division in Pot Three.

Then, the 38 remaining teams from Pot Five, which is filled with Segunda B clubs, will be paired against each other and the remaining three teams from LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank.

That leaves one Segunda Division B team to receive a bye to the next round.
