Angel Correa 'offered huge £52m pay packet to move to Saudi Arabia'

Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa has reportedly been offered a huge £52million contract over three years to play in Saudi Arabia.

The 28-year-old Argentina international is apparently frustrated at being a squad player in Madrid and would be open to a move away this month.

Back in the summer, an unnamed Saudi Pro League club offered Atletico first £26m and then £35m for Correa but the Spanish club refused to sell.

Now, according to Diario AS, Atletico are more open to a sale and Correa is more inclined to make the move, especially on the impressive salary.

Correa, whose Atletico contract runs until 2026, came off the bench to play half-an-hour at the Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh on Wednesday as they lost 5-3 to rivals Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercup semi-final.

He has started only three LaLiga matches and two in the Champions League so far this season in an indication of his declining importance for Diego Simeone, appearing mostly from the bench.

Correa has scored five times this season but will appreciate increased game time in Saudi.

Atletico are reportedly open to a sale if the transfer fee is still around the £35m mark because they would have to source a replacement of Correa this month.

Simeone's side have to play Real again on January 18, this time in the Copa del Rey last-16, before picking up their LaLiga campaign away to Granada on January 22.

They went into the winter pause sitting fifth in the standings, some 10 points adrift of leaders Real.

Correa moved to Atletico in 2015 and has scored 73 goals in 392 appearances for them.
