Ansu Fati's father has revealed his desire for his son to represent Portugal internationally despite the Barcelona wonder kid having recently been awarded with a Spanish passport.
A fast-track procedure was officially completed on Friday, leaving Fati available for selection for the upcoming U-17's World Cup.
But the 16-year-old's father is desperate for the starlet to snub the increasing interest from Spain.
Speaking to A Bola, Bori Fati said: 'My dream was to see my son playing for Portugal and I think that was also his dream, but now it is difficult.
'Some time ago, I spoke with a director from the Portuguese Football Federation. The conversation was positive and we agreed to talk the following day but that person hasn't called me back.
'Then, with these matches that he played, the pressure from Spain grew very strong and I've been contacted directly by the president of the Spanish Federation.'
Fati had been born in Guinea-Bissau, but is eligible to represent Spain having spent a significant amount of time in the country.
And with the tantalising prospect of international action now presented to him, the talent is set to represent La Roja in October's showpiece.
But a change of nationality is still possible up until the point where Fati is handed a first senior appearance for Spain, and the wing wizard's father isn't ruling out a potential switch in the future.
He added: 'He feels Portuguese and so do I. And it would be easy for him to play for Portugal, it would be enough for Umaro Embalo, the Benfica player, to convince him.
'He is a great friend, and speaks every day with Ansu.
'Everything is in the hands of Ansu, he will take a decision now.'
