The rojiblanco club has taken a stance following Real Madrid’s campaign against the referees appointed for the Copa del Rey final.
Atlético de Madrid has responded to the narrative pushed in the lead-up to the Copa del Rey final by Real Madrid and its surrounding media after the referees assigned to Saturday’s match against Barcelona in Seville gave a press conference on Friday morning.
Following the referees’ comments—and yet another video from Real Madrid TV—the Madrid club issued a statement criticizing the referees’ remarks. Reports also surfaced claiming that those at the Bernabéu had requested a change in officiating crew and were even considering pulling out of the final.
Late Friday night, Atlético posted a strong message on social media, echoing their stance in recent derbies where they denounced the pressure exerted on referees by Real Madrid’s official media channel before and after matches.
“This is unbearable. Enough with tarnishing the image of Spanish football. #StopRefHarassmentNow,” read Atlético’s post, clearly positioning themselves in the ongoing referee controversy surrounding Real Madrid.
