Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin told EFE that the club will file a complaint with FIFA, accusing Barcelona of "negotiating with a player who still has a valid contract during a protected period." The player in question is Argentine forward Julian Alvarez.

Marin said: "It is our responsibility to defend Atletico Madrid's interests, so we will file a complaint with FIFA because Barcelona negotiated with a player whose contract is still valid during a protected period."
Marin expressed regret over Alvarez's public transfer request and reiterated that the club "has no intention of transferring his registration rights," while stating that Barcelona "lacks respect for Atletico Madrid" and "believes it can disregard" the Madrid club.
Speaking to EFE on Tuesday, Marin said: "I deeply regret his remarks. That day was not the time to make such a statement; it was a day for Messi and the Argentina national team, not for Julian."
"They lied to us, lied to the player, lied to the media, and lied to their own fans. They tried to convince everyone that they could complete a deal they were actually completely unable to afford. This is not the first time Barcelona has done this—the entire football world is well aware of it. Last year they pulled something very similar with Nico Williams and Athletic Bilbao."
"Julian has dreams, and we Atletico Madrid fans have dreams too. It is true that he spoke with us, but he is fully aware of our position because we have made it very clear: Atletico Madrid does not intend to sell him. He is a great player, and we are proud to have him at our club."
Atletico Madrid issued this statement after Alvarez made his remarks following Argentina's match against Austria in the 2026 World Cup. The forward stated: "A transfer is the best outcome for everyone," and expressed hope to "fulfill" his "dream."
Atletico Madrid has repeatedly stated it has no intention of selling Alvarez. His contract with the club runs until June 30, 2030, with a release clause of €500 million.
