Atletico Madrid are looking for a left-back in the winter transfer window who could potentially replace Filipe Lis, who wants to go to Paris Saint-Germain.
Top of the list is Jose Luis Gaya of Valencia. The Pedreguer born player is not the only one though, with Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico, of Argentina, also an option.
Per Superdeporte Atletico are interested in a top level player and although the position hasn't been a priority, now they have decided that Jonny Castro, on loan at Wolves, is not sufficient if Filipe Luis tries to force a move.
Gaya, a regular in Luis Enrique's Spain squad, has become more of a warrior under Marcelino at left-back, showing intensity, qualities Cholo Simeone likes.
"My future is here, I'm fed up of hearing my name every time they talk about a potential sale," said Gaya. He has renewed his contract until 2023 and has a release clause of 100m euros, so a move will not be easy.
