The North American striker se cerró en una cifra récord la cual es superior a lo que el FC Dallas pedía por la joven estrella del USMNT.

Ricardo Pepi's future has been resolved at last, with the player set to embark on a new adventure in Europe. Journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Augsburg have snatched the USMNT striker from under the noses of Wolfsburg, where many had presumed the player appeared to be heading during the January window.

Pepi's transfer to Bundesliga side Augsburg was completed for a fee of around 20 million dollars, a new club transfer record for FC Dallas - a figure way beyond what they were expecting. The deal makes Ricardo Pepi the second most expensive transfer in MLS history behind Miguel Almirón's move to Newcastle in January 2019. Pepi however, becomes the most expensive North American signing to have swapped MLS for European football.

When could Pepi make his debut?

It is expected that the 20-year-old will pass a medical revision with his new German employers in the coming days. The Bundesliga resumes after the Christmas break this weekend with Augsburg travelling to Hoffenheim on Saturday. It is more likely that Pepi will make his debut for his new club the following weekend in the home meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Pepi's first Bundesliga appearance will depend on how quickly Augsburg can process all of the necessary paperwork regarding his work permit. Once that is all in order, Pepi will be able to join up with compatriots Tyler Adams, John Brooks, Joe Scally, Timothy Chandler, Gio Reyna, Chris Richards and Julian Green - the other American stars currently playing in the Bundesliga.
