After a goalless first half, it was Girona who would make the breakthrough when Cristhian Stuani came off the bench to convert a penalty to break the deadlock.
Girona would survive Barca's late onslaught to hold on to their lead and then lift the Catalan Super Cup in their first-ever appearance in the competition.
