On August 24, Barcelona issued an official statement condemning the excessive use of force against fans before their match against Elche, as well as the clearly inappropriate arrest of a supporter.

Barcelona Football Club condemns the excessive use of force by the relevant authorities against club members and fans before Barça’s away La Liga match against Elche, during incidents that occurred the previous day around the Martínez Valero Stadium.
The club particularly views the arrest of one Barcelona fan as clearly inappropriate and considers the use of force to have been disproportionate, unnecessary, and unjustified. Barcelona Football Club is committed to providing the necessary support to the arrested fan and their family.
Barcelona Football Club also deeply regrets the police’s continued confiscation of Catalan independence flags held by Barcelona supporters. The Catalan independence flag is a legal symbol, and displaying it constitutes a legitimate exercise of freedom of expression; it cannot be deemed incitement to hatred or violence solely on that basis.
Barcelona Football Club is awaiting an explanation from the authorities regarding this matter and reserves the right to take appropriate action to protect the personal safety, legitimate rights, and freedom of expression of club members and fans, both at Spotify Camp Nou and in away stadiums.
