It’s safe to say that Vitor Roque has had an incredibly difficult start to life as a Barcelona player. He was barely counted on during the second half of last season, and despite the change of management, it appeared that his prominence has not increased – if anything, it has gone down further.
As such, a departure has been inevitable. A permanent sale would allow Barcelona to ease their financial burdens, although it is more likely that a loan takes place.
Roque reportedly wants to remain in La Liga, although he could now be heading to Portugal. Matteo Moretto has revealed that Barcelona are in talks with Sporting CP over a deal for the teenage striker.
If it were to be a loan deal, Sporting would be a fine move for Roque – and for Barcelona. He’d have the opportunity to develop in a league weaker than La Liga, which would help to build his confidence too. It remains to be seen whether this can be agreed.
