Young midfielder Pedri has taken a new personal challenge this season. If a report from Mundo Deportivo is to be believed, the 19-year-old will try to double up his goal tally from the previous season, meaning that he is aiming to score at least 10-12 goals this term.
The former Las Palmas midfielder has already opened his account, a goal that came in a 4-0 home win against Valladolid. The strike could rightly be termed as the first of many, as the 19-year-old looks to reach the double figure in goals this season.
To say Pedri has been a sensation since arriving in 2020 would be a sheer understatement. The midfielder went on to make a whopping 52 appearances across all competitions while scoring four goals in his debut campaign.
Ever since his arrival as a 17-year-old, Pedri has been working on achieving short-term goals. This was one of the reasons why it took him no time to get into Ronald Koeman's blueprint, followed by earning a national team cap in 2021.
Such short-term plans have helped the midfielder big time, both physically and mentally. Now, the 2021-22 season was indeed a letdown, due to constant injuries, which also forced him out of the Golden Boy nominations this year, but it was nevertheless a learning curve.
He has now pushed away the thorns of the previous year and is looking forward to becoming one of Barcelona's leaders for years to come.
For that, Xavi's arrival has been crucial, to say the very least. With Lionel Messi gone, the manager gave his midfielders a free hand to make necessary forays into the attacking third.
Pedri understands that in order to become a complete player, he must capitalize on the given opportunities. And taking up Xavi's advice as a challenge, the 19-year-old has set himself a personal challenge to score at least ten goals this season.
