Barcelona did not make any signings in the final month of the transfer window, but they did get a registration done in the final hour before the deadline – an increasingly familiar affair for the Catalan giants. In this case, it was not one of their new signings that was registered, but one of their La Masia products.
Midfielder Marc Bernal has now been registered with the first team, rather than as a Barca Atletic player, meaning that he will be at Hansi Flick’s disposal as he wishes to use him. Bernal started off last season as a starter under Flick, and is on his way back from a cruciate ligament injury.
He is expected to be ready to get back on the pitch for the first time on the 14th of September against Valencia, more than a year after his injury. Sport say that he will wear the number 22 shirt with the first team. It is not yet clear whether he has been registered on his current deal, running until 2026, or the new contract agreed until 2029 that has not been publicly announced.
However one of their summer signings, Roony Bardghji, is yet to be registered with the first team. The Swedish talent has been registered with Barca Atletic as a precaution – ensuring he is not left without football until January – but the Blaugrana intend to register him still. With players involved with affiliate sides, La Liga allows registrations for the first team throughout the year, and thus the Catalan daily explain that Barcelona intend to register Bardghji before the Valencia clash via a third board guarantee, having reportedly put up an extra €12m so far for the registrations of Marcus Rashford, Joan Garcia, Wojciech Szczesny and Gerard Martin.
