A new report claims Ben White's exit from the World Cup squad was due to a reported bust-up with England assistant boss Steve Holland.

White left the England camp in Qatar owing to 'personal reasons', leaving Gareth Southgate's squad one man down.

Now the Daily Star have reported that the Arsenal defender's exit from England was owing to a bust-up with Holland.

The newspaper claims White was unhappy at the Al Wakrah training base, and did not gel with his teammates.

Holland and White had an exchange of words after the defender turned up to a team meeting ahead of the the USA fixture without knowing vital data about his personal statistics, and also lacking information about England's opponents.

A mutual decision was made to allow White to return home, having played no part in England's fixtures up to that point. He is not expected to return to Qatar.

Holland, 52, was assistant manager at Chelsea before joining the England set-up, first with the under-21s, and then moving up to the senior side. With England, he has always worked next to Southgate.

England are currently preparing for Saturday's quarter-final against France.

They drew the aforementioned game with the USA in a goalless battle sandwiched between two comfortable wins over Iran and Wales. They also won Sunday evening's round-of-16 clash 3-0 against Senegal.
