Betting Tips: Sevilla vs Villarreal

The hosts were in European action in midweek and our Spanish expert is backing the Yellow Submarine to take an early lead in Andalusia on Sunday

Thursday night saw Sevilla contest their fifth Europa League qualifier of the season, with the Andalusians recording a 1-0 win which puts them within touching distance of the group stages.

The midweek trip to the Czech Republic may take a toll on Pablo Machin's men for this weekend's La Liga clash, although the manager made a number of changes to the team that beat Rayo Vallecano 4-1 in their opening game.

Villarreal meanwhile have not had to endure any Europa League qualifiers having finished fifth last season, although they did lose their opening game 2-1 at home to Real Sociedad despite an excellent early goal from summer signing Gerard Moreno.

Sevilla have lost just four of their last 38 home matches in La Liga and bet365 price them at 8/11 (1.72) to record a win. Villarreal meanwhile can be backed at 10/3 (4.33) while the draw is offered at 16/5 (4.20).

The likes of Andre Silva, Roque Mesa and Jesus Navas were all on the bench for Sevilla's midweek European game, and we should expect them to return to the starting eleven here.

Villarreal remain without long-term midfield absentees Javie Fuego and Bruno Soriano.

Sevilla struggled more than they would have expected on Thursday evening and certainly had to put in quite an effort to the claim the late goal which brought them the victory.

Similarly, last season they had to put in a serious effort during their two league matches against Villarreal, with both of those games seeing the Yellow Submarine taking a 2-0 lead only for Sevilla to come back to win 3-2 on one occasion and draw 2-2 on the other.

With Sevilla perhaps a little fatigued, Villarreal might feel they can take the game to the side from Andalusia and an interesting option could be backing the visitors to take an early lead.

Javi Calleja's side are offered at 7/4 (2.75) to score the first goal of the game, which looks like an excellent option.

The visitors are priced at 6/4 (2.50) to score in the first half which could also be an intelligent selection, while bolder punters might be interested in the price of 7/2 (4.50) for Villarreal to be ahead at the break.
