After Real Madrid officially stated that they had no intention of signing Chelsea midfielder Enzo in the summer, the BBC published an article analyzing the Argentine midfielder's prospects.

After Chelsea failed to qualify for European competition last season, sources revealed that Enzo was eager to leave and join Real Madrid. Earlier reports claimed that the Spanish giants were interested in signing the Argentine midfielder, who joined Chelsea in February 2023 for a then-British-record transfer fee of £107 million.
However, Real Madrid issued a statement on Friday, July 3, insisting that the reports were "untrue." The statement read: "Given the recent reports and comments regarding Real Madrid's interest in Enzo, the club wishes to clarify that it has not made any direct or indirect efforts to sign the aforementioned player, nor does it have any intention of doing so."
Chelsea have confirmed that they have not received any inter-club contact from Real Madrid regarding Enzo. The Blues value the 25-year-old at £120 million, but they are not actively looking to sell him and are happy to keep him as a key player under new manager Xabi Alonso.
Former manager Liam Rosenior had previously suspended Enzo for two matches in April after he said he did not know whether he would remain at Chelsea next season and added that he would "love" to live in Madrid.
Real Madrid's statement is a major blow to Enzo and his team. Anyone who has followed his team's comments, or those of the Argentine international himself, knows he was open to leaving Stamford Bridge this summer, with a move to the Spanish capital considered his preferred option. Before Real Madrid publicly distanced themselves from Enzo, sources from PSG and Man City had privately sent similar signals, with both clubs previously linked with the midfielder.
Since March, following Enzo's decline in form at Chelsea and the team's elimination from the Champions League by PSG, he has made several public statements in Spanish interviews. Later that month, while on international duty, he repeatedly spoke about a possible move to Spain, which eventually led to an internal two-match suspension. His agent, Pastore, has also publicly discussed his future, suggesting that Enzo is underpaid at Chelsea and stating that failure to qualify for the Champions League could become an issue.
Despite the difficult situation, Chelsea do not believe it is irreversible. Internally at Stamford Bridge, there is confidence that Alonso can successfully reintegrate Enzo into the team and repair his relationship with the fans through strong performances and results.
