Carles Rexach has departed Barcelona, it was announced this Monday. The former player and coach has been associated with the Spanish club for the majority of his life in football, even acting as Josep Maria Bartomeu's personal advisor in the latter stages of his presidency.
But, Bartomeu's resignation has subsequently led to Rexach's exit. According to La Vanguardia, his departure was a decision taken by the interim board that has been in place since Bartomeu's resignation on October 27.
Rexach played and coached at the Camp Nou before being made an advisor after Sandro Rosell won the 2010 elections. Bartomeu's arrival saw him continue at the club.
Having arrived at Barcelona aged 12, Rexach leaves at 73. He did, though, spend some time away from the club, notably in the late 1990s when he coached Japanese side Yokohama Flugels.
Elections
Meanwhile, the interim board are continuing to plan for elections and will meet with the Catalan government on Monday to discuss the voting protocol ahead of January's vote, given the coronavirus pandemic. The idea of the elections being held over two days hasn't been ruled out.
