Dani Carvajal has had competition at right-back for his entire Real Madrid career, even before he broke into the first team.

In the spring of 2012, the names of Glen Johnson and Kyle Walker were being touted as possible targets for Jose Mourinho to bring in.

During the following summer, Carvajal was sent to Bayer Leverkusen and Nacho was the Castilla player to come up to the first team.

Over in the Bundesliga, Carvajal enjoyed a breakthrough season and it wasn't long before he was back at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

Under Carlo Ancelotti, Carvajal dislodged Alvaro Arbeloa at right-back and became the undisputed starter for the second half of the 2013/14 campaign.

With Carvajal at right-back, Real Madrid won La Decima in Lisbon before their homegrown player was included in Vicente del Bosque's World Cup squad.

After another solid season for the Spaniard at club level, Real Madrid brought in Danilo to offer competition in that position.

The Brazilian started one more game than Carvajal in LaLiga Santander that following season as Real Madrid won another Champions League title in Milan.

With Zinedine Zidane in charge, Carvajal became the first-choice right-back again, starting 38 games to Danilo's 24 during the 2016/17 season.

With Danilo leaving for Manchester City, Real Madrid promoted Achraf Hakimi before signing Alvaro Odriozola for 40 million euros the following summer.

Now, Carvajal is the No.1 choice at right-back for sure and he'll be looking to secure the same spot in the Spanish national team for Euro 2020.
