Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reportedly set on a return to FC Barcelona just one year after signing for Chelsea, with the striker intent on moving back to Catalonia.
According to AS, the former Gabon international is 'willing to do everything' to secure a move to Barcelona, a club where Aubameyang only spent six months at though quickly established himself as a star striker and a fan favourite with supporters.
Since signing for Chelsea in the summer, though, Aubameyang's career has taken a turn for the worse, with the attacker failing to hit the form that made the attacker so potent at Barcelona and previously at Arsenal, with a departure this summer all but certain for the 33-year-old.
Aubameyang has struggled for both minutes and form under Graham Potter, with the Chelsea boss even unregistering the attacker from the Blues UEFA Champions League squad for the knockout stage of the competition.
Indeed, with three goals across Europe and the Premier League, it's no wonder why Aubameyang and Chelsea are keen on a quick exit this summer, yet the attacker's dream of returning to Barcelona could be difficult, even if the striker was to have his contract terminated.
As we know, Barcelona's financial situation seems to only be getting worse, and as a result, the Catalan giants could struggle to even afford Aubameyang and to register him, issues that could easily rule out a welcome return to La Liga this summer.
Barcelona signing Aubameyang could easily not happen
Chelsea are seemingly more than happy to let Aubameyang leave this summer, with the Blues keen on slashing their wage bill and lowering the overall size of the squad to a manageable level for Potter. Yet for the player himself, a return to Barcelona could fizzle out into nothing.
Given the financial mess surrounding Xavi Hernandez's side, Aubameyang's dream of a Catalonia homecoming might be hard to achieve, yet with interest from other clubs already there in the former Arsenal captain, a summer move will still be on the cards.
