Christian Eriksen is training with Ajax's second team as he looks to step up his return to fitness ahead of a potential move to Premier League side Brentford.
The 29-year-old hasn't played professionally since his cardiac arrest during Denmark's match against Finland at Euro 2020 on June 12.
He was unable to continue playing for Italian side Inter Milan after being fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator - Italy are the only country in the world with such a rule that bans players from competing with such a device.
It now appears Eriksen could soon join Thomas Frank's Brentford side on a six-month deal until the end of the season but until then, is sharpening up at one of his old clubs.
'I am very happy to be here,' Eriksen said. 'At Ajax I know the people, it feels like coming home because I was here for so long.
'All facilities are available here and with Jong Ajax I can train at a high level in a group. That's the perfect foundation for me at the moment.
'I want to be at my best again as soon as possible so that when I find a new club, I can perform well there as quickly as possible.'
Former Everton player John Heitinga is coach of the Ajax second team, and said: 'If a former player and, moreover, a self-trained product of ours knocks on the door of the club in this situation, we have no doubts, of course he’s welcome back.
It's great that he can train with us. Christian is a footballer who is an example for many of our boys, a source of inspiration for the youth to move up.'
