The Court of Barcelona has reopened the investigation concerning the liver transplant of Eric Abidal.
According to the prosecutor there are certain alleged irregularities that have to be reassessed regarding the donation of the organ from the Frenchman's cousin to the current Barcelona director of football. The prosecutor's office and state attorney appealed against the initial decision of the court to file the case, without submitting the medical examination of Abidal's relative. A report back in July 2018 alleged that former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell went to the black market to purchase a liver for Abidal in 2012, but the court has since closed the investigation.
Eric Abidal's cousin is set to appear before the Spanish court on November 8 at 10am CET.Gerard Armand has been summoned to testify in relation to the liver donation he made to the former Barcelona player in 2012.As revealed by L'Equipe, he'll be required to present himself in Spain. At the time, a conversation between former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and another party was intercepted which suggested the transplant may have been achieved fraudulently.
