David Beckham has forked out £5,000 on a BBQ

David Beckham has forked out £5,000 on a new BBQ - as Britain braces itself for the biggest storm of the summer.

The ex-England captain treated wife Victoria to a state-of-the-art Japanese grill which can spit-roast a pig, prepare a roast dinner or cook a whole pizza.

Becks splashed out on a Kamado Joe, complete with all optional extras including a smoker, wood oven pizza attachment and a steamer, for the family's Cotwsolds home.

It replaces last year's “must-have” griller, the £600 Big Green Egg BBQ, which Becks previously proudly Instagrammed.

A source said: “David loves cooking and has been to quite a few grill restaurants over the past year.

“He was told about the Kamado Joe and ordered one straight away so that the family could enjoy long, leisurely al fresco BBQs in the summer.

“He is very hands-on when it comes to cooking, and quite experimental.

"Sadly he didn't count on this summer being quite such a wash-out.”

With a recent poll showing Brits host an average of six BBQs per year, Becks' BBQs would work out at a princely £833 per use.

“Komodo” - meaning “place for the cauldron” in Japanese - is the generic term for this style of ceramic cooker in Asia.

While the company's basic Big Joe grill starts at £2,499, additional extras can take the total cost to almost £5,000.

In contrast, Lidl offers a basic BBQ for £12, while even upmarket Waitrose sells a portable barbie for £20.

However this weekend 50mph winds will once again hit the UK, four months after Storm Hannah wreaked havoc.
