The VAR technology has sparked controversy since its introduction, but Vicente del Bosque believes that elite clubs such as Real Madrid and Barcelona shouldn't complain about possible mistakes.
Los Blancos criticised the use of the VAR in the Clasico, but the former Spain coach insisted that both teams have to back the new technology.
"I think the big Spanish clubs should shut up and set an example," Del Bosque told Radio MARCA.
A decade has gone by since La Roja won the World Cup in South Africa and Del Bosque, who was the team's coach back in 2010, has placed Spain among the football powerhouses.
"Time has passed very quickly, but after all that we have experienced, we can say that today Spain is a country that is amongst football's greats," he noted.
On his 69th birthday, Del Bosque was asked about his opinion on a potential Kylian Mbappe move to Real Madrid.
"He is a player that I like very much," he replied.
"[He is] very good and guarantees a lot of goals."
