Liverpool striker Diogo Jota has passed away in a traffic accident at the age of 28.

Jota came through the youth academy of Portuguese side Gondomar before moving to Paços Ferreira, where he joined Atletico Madrid in July 2016 for a fee of €7 million before being loaned out to Porto.

During his time at Porto, he made 38 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists, and in the following 17-18 season he was loaned to Wolves, where he made 46 appearances, 43 of which were starts, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists.

He joined Wolves on a permanent basis in July 2018 for a fee of €14 million and has since gone on to make 85 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists.

Liverpool signed Jota for €44.7 million in September 2020, and since then, he has made 182 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists.

At the national team level, he made his senior debut on 14 November 2019, and since then, he has scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 46 appearances for Portugal and played in two European Championships.

He won one Premier League title, one FA Cup, two EFL Cups at Liverpool, and two Nations League titles with his country, including one Premier League title and one Nations League title this season.
