AC Milan great Roberto Donadoni supports the appointment of Luciano Spalletti as new Italy coach.
Spalletti was appointed over the weekend.
Former Azzurri coach Donadoni said: "I am convinced that the choice of the national team to hire a coach like Spalletti was an intelligent solution.
"Now let's give him space and time to work. I think the national team is a source of pride for anyone who does this job, I have had this privilege and I know what it means, despite all the difficulties, to represent your nation."
On the Napoli's compensation, he also said: “President (Aurelio) De Laurentiis has a mindset on contracts of his own. I really don't think that Luciano's choice is competitive with Napoli. Obviously I don't know the merits of the agreements made between the coach and the club. I imagine, however, that with an effort on both sides a compromise can be found for the benefits of the national team. Maybe two friendlies to play at Maradona could be a good idea."
