Two years after doctors told him he may never play football again, Borussia Dortmund youngster Dario Scuderi finally made his return to the pitch.

Scuderi suffered one of the most horrific leg breaks in recent memory during a UEFA Youth League match back in September 2016.

'It [was] the worst injury you could possibly imagine,' Scuderi's surgeon said at the time.

'Pretty much everything tore: the ligaments, all the muscle and tendons.'

Now, after over 700 days on the sideline and an astonishing nine surgeries on his left knee, the 20-year-old has revealed his euphoria after running out in the yellow and black once again.

The Italian right back turned out for Dortmund's reserves in a friendly against Luner SV, a national league team in west Germany.

'Comeback,' he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of him back on the field.

'After a very long and hard time, where the doctors had already written me off. Thanks to my family and my friends and the BVB, without you I would not be back.'

During his time out of the side, Dortmund funded him to study sports management in order for him to have a career to pursue should the worst become reality.

But after returning to Dortmund training in May and enduring an intense pre-season, he has finally completed his comeback.
