According to RMC, PSG coach Luis Enrique could not hide his emotions for his hometown when he appeared in Gijón on Monday to attend the inauguration of a public space named after him.

After an emotionally intense season coaching PSG, Enrique is fully enjoying his vacation. On Monday, the Paris coach returned to his hometown of Gijón for the inauguration of a public space named after him: the Rincónlín green beach, covering more than 6,000 square meters, has now officially been renamed Luis Enrique Martínez. That day, the Spanish coach attended the ceremony accompanied by his family, representatives of local institutions, and people from all walks of Gijón society.

Enrique was visibly emotional as he delivered a speech about his deep connection with the city. "My ashes will be laid here. This is a special beach, and I like to go against the current. I love it here so much. Long live Asturias, long live Gijón, long live Sporting Gijón!" he joked at first. He then added: "But Gijón is Gijón. When I see this plaque, I don't think of my own name, but of my parents, who gave up everything to come to Gijón."

Intense Emotions

The two-time Champions League-winning coach also mentioned his wife, Elena, saying she "supported me every step of the way." "We will have spent at least 30 years living together, which is really not easy. The most basic and simple values that my parents taught me, we are also passing on to our children. It has been 30 years since my wife and I started this life journey, and we have built a beautiful family with three children: Pacho, Sira, and Ana."
