Manchester United are reportedly plotting to hijack Chelsea's plan to buy a player who has been compared to David Beckham.
Beckham, part of the famous Class of 1992, went on to become one of the most famous players in history and was renowned as a dead-ball specialist and for his stunning crossing ability.
Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa, who has compared himself to Beckham, has previously been linked with a £25million move to Chelsea as a potential back-up for Ben Chilwell.
German outlet Kicker have reported that incoming United boss Erik ten Hag is keen to beat Chelsea to the Croatian international and make him his first signing this summer.
With his crossing ability and long blonde hair, it has made comparisons to Beckham inevitable - especially since the player has compared himself to the former England captain.
It's a belief which the Stuttgart's sporting director Sven Mislintat agrees with.
In an interview with Bild last season, the transfer chief said: 'Borna Sosa's said that David Beckham is his role model, and I think he has the same qualities.
'He puts in crosses from every angle; sometimes chipped, sometimes drilled, sometimes flat, sometimes in behind, sometimes to the front post, other times to the back post — his left foot is a real weapon.'
The comparisons come despite the pair playing different positions, with Beckham being one of the most successful right-wingers in Premier League history with one of the most notorious right-foots.
Sosa, who is left-footed, has made 27 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, directly contributing to nine goals from a wing-back position.
He would offer further competition for Luke Shaw and Alex Telles if he were to join Manchester United.
While at Chelsea he would offer greater back-up to Chilwell, who has been out since November with a ruptured cruciate ligament.
Stuttgart, sit third from bottom and look set to compete in a relegation play-off unless they can beat Cologne and hope Hertha Berlin lose to Borussia Dortmund this weekend.
