Explosion in Leverkusen

The Bayer chemical plant in Leverkusen suffered a catastrophic explosion this morning.

Smoke could be seen billowing out from the damaged factory.

The local population has been warned to close all windows as fears of possible danger to the quality of the air has been raised.

More images have since been released showing the extent of the problem.

Bayer Leverkusen cancel training

Due to the explosion, the Bayer Leverkusen football team were instructed to avoid training outside today.

The fears of inhaling poisonous air could be an issue that persists.

The club Bayer Leverkusen are named as such due to their pharmaceutical company sponsor Bayer AG.

Many within Germany see this as a slight on the traditional fan-led clubs throughout the country. Similar to the disdain for clubs such as RB Leipzig with their connection to the Red Bull company or Hoffenheim, a small village in reality, with a stadium larger than the town’s population thanks to Dietmar Hopp’s financial backing.

But the Bayer name is looking particular bad now with a the direct connection to this explosion. The effects of which are yet to be determined for the long-term safety of the local area.
