FIFA 'are trying to cover up footage of Achraf Hakimi CONFRONTING Gianni Infantino'

FIFA are reportedly trying to cover up footage of Achraf Hakimi confronting Gianni Infantino after the third place play-off in the World Cup on Saturday.

Hakimi's Morocco side lost the game 2-1 to Croatia and tensions boiled over at full time with the African side frustrated with some of the decisions from Qatari referee Abdulrahman Al-Jassim in the game.

According to beIN Sports via The Mirror, the governing body are trying to play down the confrontation, which is said to have taken place on the pitch when Infantino was waiting to give the Croatia players their medals.

Morocco missed several chances in the game to score more than their solitary goal but frustrations grew as the game progressed, with Hakimi showing his anger when Al-Jassim allowed play to continue after the full-back was seemingly tripped by Bruno Petkovic.

The refereeing in the tournament has been highly criticised throughout, perhaps never more so than during England's quarter-final defeat to France.

Plenty of anger was also on show when Uruguay were knocked out in the group stages, with Edinson Cavani punching over a VAR monitor as he left the field of play after their final game.

Croatia captain Luka Modric, meanwhile, slammed Italian referee Daniele Orsato for his performance during his side's semi-final loss to Argentina.

'They wanted us to delete the images,' SVT Sports reporter Johan Kucukaslan said of the alleged confrontation between Hakimi and Infantino.

'It is clear that these are embarrassing scenes for them, and it is a bit naive of them to think that a dozen journalists should not report on this when we witness it happening.'

Hakimi was reportedly calm in his approach and tensions calmed when his team-mates turned him away.
