The boat is full. The bandwagon is overflowing with new-born supporters of Karim Benzema; those who laughed and despised him months ago are now converted to the religion of good football that the Frenchman is leading at Real Madrid, that No.9 with the soul of a 10.

It is a ship that came close to sinking once or twice, but it has always been captained by Florentino Perez and he has regularly defended Benzema's continuity at the club.

The president has always been convinced of his importance and now Benzema is convincing everyone else, from his admirers to his biggest critics and Madrid must thank Perez for his stance.

Benzema showed a new dimension against Girona of what he can do, proving an ability to do things that many thought he couldn't.

"I'm willing to take over the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo," he said at the start of the season, referring to the 50 goals the Portuguese took from Madrid with his departure. While Benzema's tally is some way off the Juventus star's, he has added 17 goals already this season.

Benzema is Madrid's point of reference in attack, he is on a roll and it is showing, particularly in his last two appearances, in which he has shown the instinct of a pure centre forward, as well as the subtle technique of something more.

Vinicius Junior's arrival at Madrid has proven to be something amazing for the Frenchman and he has shown an understanding with the youngster. They speak the same language on the pitch and that translates into assists, space and success for Madrid.

Los Blancos are getting back to their best and it is timely with the Champions League soon to return, the team in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey and still with time to salvage something in LaLiga Santander.
