In spite of Real Madrid's 4-0 home defeat against Barcelona on Sunday night, the capital city club are not looking to make drastic decisions. While it was a dreadful result for Carlo Ancelotti's side, MARCA can confirm that the club are now calmly analysing and reflecting on how such a defeat came about.
The club hierarchy would have felt deep anger and disgust both during and after the match, as they did at half time in the Champions League second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. Although that night Los Blancos turned the situation around with a remarkable comeback, there was no repeat of that against Barcelona.
As the referee blew the full time whistle, fans and journalists called on the club hierarchy to make drastic decisions, but they will not do so.
Instead, the first reflection is the fact that Real Madrid currently sit 12 points above Barcelona in the LaLiga Santander table.
Although many were furious at the decisions made by Ancelotti, and the team's relaxed attitude, which Nacho Fernandez alluded to at full time, they reflected on the fact that the squad is still lacking in various departments.
Real Madrid's summer plans
Gareth Bale, Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic were all on the bench and did not feature, as they contribute very little to the side when they play.
As a result, it was made clear to the club hierarchy that a significant rebuild of the squad is now necessary.
The club were previously ready to part ways with players whose contracts expire this summer, such as Bale, Isco and Mariano Diaz, and to sell a number of other players.
Now, they are looking not only to complete the signing of Kylian Mbappe this summer, but also bring in a number of other players this summer.
Ancelotti has a year remaining on his contract and, for the moment, the club are not considering sacking him.
If he is to lift a trophy at the end of the season, that is all that matters, and Real Madrid are very much in the fight for both the LaLiga Santander title and the Champions League.
