The revile posters against Dietmar Hopp could also have criminal consequences. The police set up their own body to combat hatred in the stadium.

The police headquarters in Mannheim have set up an investigation group in response to the latest abuse against Dietmar Hopp, the patron of the Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim.

"Experienced scene and local officials" should form this group, the police said on Sunday.

"Targeting hatred in the stadium"

In addition, the video recordings from the stadium are currently being evaluated "to identify alleged perpetrators".

Bayern fans had twice shown offensive banners during the game. These were directed against Hopp, the German Football Association (DFB) and the German Football League (DFL).

"We cannot leave verbal and non-verbal criminals to the field," said Mannheim Police Chief Andreas Stenger: "That is why we are specifically targeting hatred on the stadium ranks and consistently investigating alleged criminals."
