Gordon: Playing with Yamal and Raphinha gives me confidence; I hope to win titles at Barcelona

Ahead of the Champions League match against Aston Villa, Barcelona forward Gordon spoke to TNT Sports about the chemistry he has built with Yamal and Raphinha in attack, how it feels to have joined Barcelona, and his career goals.

Gordon joined Barcelona this summer from Newcastle United for a transfer fee of £69.3 million. He has quickly become an important member of Flick's attacking trio and is another England international to wear the Barcelona shirt, following Gary Lineker and Rashford.

The 25-year-old Gordon is part of one of the most prolific attacking combinations in Europe's top five leagues this season. Barcelona have scored 57 goals in 14 matches across all competitions, with Gordon contributing 3 goals and 5 assists. He plays alongside Yamal and Raphinha, two of Europe's most outstanding attackers, who have combined for 29 goals so far this season.

Ahead of Tuesday's home Champions League match against Aston Villa, Gordon spoke to TNT Sports about playing alongside his two teammates.

Gordon said: "It definitely gives me more confidence. I get more chances, so it certainly makes me a better player. They also make me better because I can pass the ball to them and they do something special with it. Obviously, that also makes me look a lot better. But it really gives me more confidence, because sometimes, even when I'm not at my best, I still have top players around me who can change the game at any moment."

Gordon admitted that he sometimes finds it hard to believe he is now a Barcelona player, having dreamed of playing for the club early in his career. He also said that people outside might not easily understand his desire to join this great Catalan club someday.

Gordon said: "If you ask any of my family, friends, or the people who have been with me all along, they will tell you that I've been saying this for a very, very long time."

However, Gordon also describes himself as an "extremely grateful person." He takes time each day to reflect on how far he has come since coming through the Everton academy and making his Premier League debut for the Merseyside club in 2020.

He said: "Every day I try to take some time, about 10 to 20 minutes, to quiet myself, to visualize, to meditate, to stay calm. I'm really grateful for the life I have and everything I've created. But ultimately, like most people, once you get to where you want to be, you want more. So now I need goals, I need trophies, and I need everything that comes with it."

This summer, Gordon became one of several English players who chose to play abroad, all hoping to compete for titles and team honors in new environments. Gordon, however, has never hidden his pursuit of individual accolades.

After seeing his England teammate Kane become the first English player to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001, Gordon believes that his move to Barcelona, like Kane's transfer to Bayern Munich, could further enhance his career and individual honors.

Gordon said: "Yes, I think that's the case for Kane too. He spent a long time at Tottenham and had an incredible career in the Premier League, but because Tottenham didn't win any trophies, it might not have put him in the top tier he's in now. I think his move to Bayern Munich took him to another level because there he can add to his trophy collection. He has the chance to show his abilities on the biggest stages and at the highest level of the Champions League, and that's what these clubs can offer. That's why I've always dreamed of playing for this club. Everyone watches Barcelona, and we have the opportunity to compete for the most important trophies on all fronts. When you can perform well in the biggest matches, the individual honors and everything else you want will follow."

Gordon was a key contributor at Newcastle United, helping the team beat Liverpool in last year's League Cup final and end a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy.

He has now arrived at a club where winning trophies is the norm, but this environment does not intimidate him.

Gordon said: "I really enjoy this challenge. I love the pressure that comes with it, but as I said, I'm here to win, I want to win trophies, so I still have a long way to go."

Barcelona coach Flick also praised Gordon highly in an interview with TNT Sports.

After joining Barcelona, Gordon had to wait a relatively long time for his first goal, which came in the team's 3-0 victory over Getafe in October. He has since scored two more, and Flick is pleased to see his patience pay off.

Flick said: "He has scored some goals for us in the recent matches after the international break, and I am very happy about that. I think this is very important for his confidence. Nothing affects him. When he gets the ball on the field, he always has the confidence he needs and knows what he can bring to the team. I think our training methods are a bit different for him, completely different from what he expected. We have discussed this before. They usually don't train like this at Newcastle, so the training here is very different from there. But he is doing very well. I am very satisfied with his abilities and the impact he has on this team."
