Antoine Griezmann has joked that buying himself on fantasy football has been the key to his improved form this season.

The forward has been a key player for Atletico Madrid as they look to challenge for the LaLiga title again, playing an important role in their solid start to the season under Diego Simeone.

The Frenchman has scored three goals in his last four league matches, netting in his side's 2-0 win over Osasuna on Thursday and in their 3-1 win over rivals Real Madrid at the weekend.

In the league table, Madrid are currently fifth with a game in hand on those around them with four wins from their first six matches this campaign.

And Griezmann's secret, 'I’ve signed myself on fantasy, so that’s given me a boost', he told reporters following his side's most recent win.

Fantasy football continues to grow in popularity worldwide, with over 10million users now playing the Premier League's official fantasy game.

But it's not just the Premier League who get in on the action, with games available for various leagues and competitions, including the WSL and Champions League.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was even asked about buying James Maddison in fantasy football this weekend, to which he replied: 'Do what you like mate.'

Griezmann, meanwhile, will have to carry the load for Madrid in the next few matches due to various injuries and suspensions at the club.

Alvaro Morata was sent off against Osasuna so will now face a ban, while Memphis Depay is injured and Angel Correa is also absent.

Simeone's side will take on Cadiz on Sunday and Real Sociedad next week before the international break, with matches against Celta Vigo and Alaves to come following the break.

They will also take on Feyenoord in the Champions League next midweek after drawing away to Lazio in their first match.
