In October 20, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Barcelona 4-2 at home in the third round of the Champions League group stage. After the match, Hakimi spoke to CBS Sports about the significance of the victory, the team's attacking and defensive performance, and their ambition to maintain a winning mentality and continue winning.
I could have asked about the result first, but let's talk about the performance. You played better and better as the game went on.
Yes. What more can I say? You know, we all know these kinds of games are very difficult. We faced one of the best teams in the world, I think. I don't believe they had lost a game before. But as I said, we have a very good team, and we want to prove it every time. We are ambitious, and we showed that again today.
Before the game, did you feel that this match meant more than just three points? Was there also a feeling of, "We're going to show you that we are stronger than you"?
You know, the season is still long, and the Champions League is just beginning. But against a team like this, you want to show them that we are the defending champions. We want to keep winning, and we are ambitious. Of course, we also want to prove to them that we are one of the best teams in the world, and perhaps currently the best.
From the stands, this game was very enjoyable and exciting, with many compelling moments on the pitch. But to make a game so exciting, you have to run a lot, right? That demands a great deal from you.
Yes, as you said, I think it was a very exciting game for the supporters and fans, and for us as well. We enjoy playing these kinds of matches. We strive to score goals and we must defend well. Such games require you to perform at a high level both defensively and offensively. So we are really happy to play such matches.
One last question: Cruyff once said that the hardest thing is to keep winning after you've won, but you seem to be doing quite well.
No, as I just said, we are ambitious. We have a big goal this year, which is to win again and keep winning—that's our objective. The coach also pushes us every day to maintain our winning mentality. We want to do our best, just like we are doing now. I hope we can keep winning.
