Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas has expressed his frustration after Thibaut Courtois missed out on a place on the podium for the Ballon d'Or.
Courtois ended up in seventh place, but former Real goalkeeper Casillas feels he should have ranked far higher.
Despite his overall finish, Courtois received the Yashin award for the best goalkeeper.
Casillas believes that Courtois is by far the best goalkeeper in the world and deserved more recognition.
Casillas wrote on Twitter: 'I'm very happy for Thibaut Courtois!
'With a huge difference, the best goalkeeper in the world. What I'm not happy about is that he was not included in the final podium for the Ballon d'Or. I still don't understand what those who choose this award are based on.'
Lev Yashin, who won it in 1963, is the only goalkeeper to have ever won the award.
Casillas' highest finish in the Ballon d'Or was fourth in 2008, while Manuel Neuer finished third in 2015.
Courtois' Real Madrid team-mate Karim Benzema prevailed this year, with Bayern Munich's Sadio Mane in second place and Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne in third.
Last season Courtois won the Champions League and the LaLiga title with Real Madrid.
In the Champions League final against Liverpool Courtois made nine saves, while he made 59 in total throughout the Champions League campaign.
