Inter’s 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid was their 19th game in the Champions League since their return to the competition in 2018, and the stats are bleak for the Nerazzurri.
The Beneamata returned after six seasons absent in 2018 and started with two wins over Tottenham Hotspur and PSV Eindhoven in the group stage in 2018-19.
But since then, the numbers are not positive for Inter, who have only won three more in the next 17 games.
In some games, like against Real Madrid on Wednesday, the Nerazzurri deserved a different outcome, but the data is cynical and shows a clear reality for Inter: they struggle in Europe.
The winners from 2009-10 have only won 5 of their last 19 games in the competition since returning in September 2018.
These results mean Inter’s Champions League adventure has ended in the group stage in recent seasons.
The three other wins came against Borussia Dortmund and Slavia Prague in 2019-20 and against Borussia Mönchengladbach last term.
Inter have drawn seven times and lost seven since the match against Spurs on September 18, 2018.
