With eyes toward the future, the young Canadian is dreaming big. The Alphonso Davies hype train is on its way to Munich.
Alphonso Davies capped off the first chapter of his soccer journey with a storybook ending. As his time in Vancouver comes to a close, the Canadian international is looking towards the future and he is dreaming big.
Although jumping from Major League Soccer to the Bundesliga and Champions League is a daunting task, Davies has made impressive jumps before, making his MLS debut at the age of 15-years-old. In a recent interview with TSN, the young winger indicated his ‘rapid rise’ cannot be attributed to luck or happenstance; his work ethic has prepared him to integrate with the first-teamers at Bayern Munich. Davies said,
Me leaving Edmonton at 14, I didn’t know what to expect, I didn’t know how far I’d make it. And every day I come to training, come to put in work, come here to stay here as long as possible.
The fruits of the Ghana-born prodigy’s labor have helped to drive him forward as he continues to overcome the odds:
That changed my perspective on life. Like, you get what you put in. So when I got the opportunity to play at a young age, it was something special.
Despite his aptitude for adaptation, the pacey (and crafty) starlet knows the move to the Bavarian capital will come with challenges of its own. “And now me leaving, the routine starts all over again... So you have to adapt quickly,” he said.
“Kid Canada” as the @FCBayernUS twitter account likes to refer to him, has imagined what his days would be like in Munich and hopes to have an immediate impact at the pinnacle of world soccer— making plays like this one against Europe’s best.
The youngster even expressed admiration for the founders of the competition formerly known as the European Cup. In interview with the Daily Hive, he said,
I can’t wait to play for Bayern, and play in the UEFA Champions League. Whoever made that competition is a brilliant guy. Having the top teams from Spain, England, Germany – all of Europe – play against each other, it’s exciting to watch.
With 8 goals and 10 assists this campaign, Davies has the potential to bring an additional scoring threat to Bayern’s attack, which is in need of reinforcements out wide. As Robben and Ribery draw increasingly closer to the end of their illustrious careers, Davies has been tipped as a linchpin for the future of the Bavarian attack alongside Serge Gnabry and Kinsgley Coman.
His rise has been meteoric. How high will he climb?
This Sunday, @AlphonsoDavies' chapter with #VWFC comes to a close.
