Iraola: Intense schedule is testing everyone, not a complaint but reality

In the third round of the Champions League group stage, Liverpool will host Villarreal. Ahead of the match, Liverpool manager Arne Slot shared his thoughts in the official matchday program, reflecting on the team's recent away victories against Linz and Brentford, discussing the congested fixture schedule, player injuries, and fan support. He urged the team to remain united to achieve better results.

Last week, Liverpool secured away wins against Linz and Brentford, triumphing in both the Champions League and the Premier League, respectively. Looking ahead, Liverpool faces challenges from Brighton, Chelsea, and Arsenal in the Premier League and the EFL Cup.

Iraola wrote in the matchday program:

"It's great to be back at Anfield after a week of away games in Linz and Brentford, especially since we secured important victories in two different competitions during these two consecutive away trips.

As everyone knows, we are in a very difficult phase of the season, and the congested fixture schedule is testing everyone. Tonight's match is another example, as we only have a two-day gap between the away match against Brentford and this game.

This is not a complaint; it's simply the reality we face. Our job is to manage this situation as effectively as possible. This means that if we want to achieve the desired results, everyone must play their part.

That's exactly what we did last Saturday against Brentford. That match was certainly not a perfect performance, but both individually and as a team, we displayed many of the qualities necessary to secure three points in such a tough game.

What pleased me most was how we handled setbacks, whether it was a player leaving the field due to injury, conceding first, or a penalty decision being overturned. Everyone knew it would be a very difficult match, and these are the kinds of challenges you can encounter. Therefore, overcoming these difficulties is undoubtedly a positive sign for us.

Of course, we also know that there were moments in the game where we could have performed better.

However, this victory came at a cost, as Jeremie Frimpong and Dominic Szoboszlai both sustained injuries, so we wish them a speedy recovery.

In the meantime, we will ask the players currently available to give their all once again, because we know that tonight's match will provide us with an opportunity to take another step forward in the Champions League.

Villarreal will be the second Spanish team we face in the Champions League this season, and they will also be a formidable opponent.

We should definitely remember that they qualified for the Champions League by finishing third in La Liga, one place above Atlético Madrid. In the previous round, they further demonstrated their strength with a very impressive victory against Napoli.

However, we have the home advantage, so we should do our utmost to utilize it.

In our last home game at Anfield, our fans created a very special atmosphere. Although we ultimately couldn't reward them with three points, that match fully showcased the fans' support for us, and I am very grateful for that.

The situation is exactly the same in away games. Whether traveling to other European countries or domestically, I am very aware of the effort and sacrifice our fans make.

Our away fans had a very positive impact on the team in the matches against Linz and Brentford. Therefore, I want to thank every Liverpool fan who traveled with us for helping us secure all six points in those two games.

We will need your support again tonight, especially because previous matches have proven once more that we are stronger when we are united.

If we can maintain the same desire both on and off the pitch, and stay united during difficult times, then hopefully we can continue to move forward."
