Isco is the captain of a Spain XI with just 97 caps

He may only have played 35 matches for Spain, but Isco was the most experienced player in the starting XI for Sunday's friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina and led the team out in Las Palmas wearing the captain's armband.

The 11 players named on Luis Enrique's teamsheet had only earned 97 caps between them ahead of this fixture, making it a very inexperienced line-up.

It has been a long time since such an inexperienced player has been captain from the start of an international fixture, with the armband having been passed between the likes of Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Xavi, Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta and David Silva in recent times.

There is experience on the bench, though, as Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets' combined appearances total is 178.

Sergio Ramos has 161 caps to his name and has been captain for 39 of them, but he left the camp early as a result of an injury.

Even if he had still been with the group, he might not have started as it seems that Luis Enrique is keen to experiment and to give young players an opportunity.
