Getafe striker Jaime Mata has been one of the fairytale stories of this LaLiga Santander season and the 30-year-old has capped off his remarkable campaign by receiving his first ever call-up to the Spanish national team.
In his debut season in the Spanish top flight, he has 13 goals in 18 starts, with Mata stating that age is not the same prohibiting factor that it was in the past.
"Age doesn't matter so much now," said Mata.
"We take more care of ourselves and it shows. The [elite] performance is lengthened.
"Being 30 is not like it was before."
In many ways, Mata has acted as a source of inspiration and he has some simple advice for those who are trying to achieve their goals.
"Advice? I am not one to offer it," he noted.
"But we must enjoy every moment and the day-to-day."
At Getafe, the striker has got used to a system that is very different to that of Spain, yet he has already adapted to the national team's playing style.
"You change clubs and adapt to new systems," he added.
"I've adapted to the pace of the national team and I am eager [to continue]."
