Barcelona president Joan Laporta has sent a rallying cry to club legend Lionel Messi by stating that the club will always be his home.
Messi left the Nou Camp in 2021 after a 21-year association with the club after financial restrictions prevented the club from offering him a new deal. However, the 35-year-old has constantly been linked with a return to Barcelona.
Now Fabrizio Romano has shared comments from Laporta via Sport, where the Barca president hints at a possible return for the club icon.
When asked a possible return to the club for the Argentinian, Laporta reportedly said: 'Messi's return to Barça in 2023? Leo knows that Barcelona is always his home'.
Leaving the door open for a dramatic comeback for the PSG star less than two years after leaving the club and moving to the French champions.
When pressed on the possible transfer Laporta did become more coy, by suggesting that the club is always looking at additions to the squad ahead of every window.
The 60-year-old stated: 'In the summer we made a plan and practically all the objectives that we had set for ourselves were achieved. We have a more competitive and compensated team than last season.
We are constantly thinking about how to improve it. Injuries have not allowed us to see the potential that this team has with the signings'
Messi scored 672 goals in 778 games for Barcelona in his two-decades at the club, becoming the the Spanish giants all-time record goal-scorer and the most decorated player to ever pull on the famous red and blue shirt.
He reluctantly moved to PSG last year - breaking down in tears at his farewell press conference - but he helped the French side retain the Ligue 1 Championship last season and has formed a formidable partnership with former Barcelona star Neymar and French superstar Kylian Mbappe.
