Real Madrid eased to a 4-0 victory over Alaves and Keylor Navas was full of praise for Cristiano Ronaldo afterwards, claiming that nobody within the dressing room was surprised by the Portuguese forward's gesture to Karim Benzema.
Ronaldo was on for a hat-trick when Los Blancos were awarded a late penalty and it would have been his 50th triple since joining the club in 2009, yet he allowed the French forward to take the spot kick in order to end his goal drought.
"We aren't surprised by his gesture," the goalkeeper explained in his post-match interview.
"We all know the kind of person he is.
"It's in these moments where you need the love of the team and Ronaldo has shown he cares about the group."
Despite struggling to put together a credible domestic title challenge, Real Madrid are now focused on lifting a third successive European Cup and Navas believes the team are hitting form at the most opportune time.
"You always want to be at your highest level all season long, however sometimes the body suffers some wear," he intimated.
"We try to reach our top level by the end of the season, that's when everything is decided.
"This is when it's necessary to play at our best to win titles."
Despite Los Blancos earning such an easy victory on Saturday, it was the visitors who had an excellent chance to take the lead in the first half, yet the Costa Rican stopper made an important save.
"You work to help the team, although sometimes with Real Madrid it's difficult because you are waiting for a shot," he intimated.
"When that shot arrives you simply must stop it.
"Today we have all played well.
"We are a very close team and are happy with the mood in the dressing room."
Next up for Navas and co. is a trip to take on Espanyol on Tuesday.
