Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, which would lead to a competition for the number one spot with Aaron Ramsdale
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp's glowing verdict of David Raya speaks volumes as Arsenal edge closer to signing the Brentford goalkeeper. football.london understands the Gunners have agreed a £30million deal to sign Raya and make him Mikel Arteta's fourth addition of the summer.
"It has to feel like this and if it doesn’t feel like this we’re not gonna get the best out of each player. So we’d better feel like this and make sure we all feel like this. Me first."
Former Spain boss Luis Enrique praised Raya for his development after handing him his first call-up to the national team last year. "It is part of the tracing we do with the goalkeepers," Enrique said, via Sportsmole.
"He is a player who is doing very well. I really want to see it in the context of the selection. He has the necessary profile to play with us."
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also heaped praise on the 27-year-old in the past after Raya starred during a 3-3 draw against the Reds back in September 2021. “The goalkeeper could have the shirt with No 10,” Klopp said.
“He played a few incredible balls but it was the right thing to do against us today," the Liverpool boss added. Arteta is known for wanting his goalkeepers to play out from the back and help the team progress forward - and it seems Raya has all the attributes to perform for the Gunners and challenge Ramsdale for a starting spot.
