New Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has revealed that people have been pronouncing his first name wrong for many years.

Kompany's shock appointment as Bayern boss was confirmed this week as he replaced Thomas Tuchel.

The former Manchester City star is one of the most familiar figures in world football but many people still pronounce his first name incorrectly.

After being unveiled as Bayern manager, Kompany told fans and the media how they should say his name.

In a video posted on Bayern's official TikTok account, Kompany said: 'So my name is actually pronounced 'Vincent'. But I played in Hamburg for two years.

'And it never worked because it is hard to pronounce for Germans I guess. That's why 'Vincent' or 'Vinny' is totally fine.'

Kompany commenced his managerial career at Anderlecht before taking charge of Burnley.

Having guided Burnley to the Championship title in impressive fashion in 2022-23, Kompany found matters considerably more challenging this season, with the Clarets being relegated from the Premier League.

However, the Belgian still did enough to impress Bayern, who turned to him after missing out on a host of other candidates.

Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick all turned the job down, while Bayern were unsuccessful in trying to convince Tuchel to stay after previously announcing that he would leave the club.

Kompany has signed a contract with Bayern until 2027 as he looks to make a major impact in Germany.

During his playing career Kompany had a spell in Germany with Hamburg between 2006 and 2008.
