Jules Kounde is still not registered for Barcelona in LaLiga and will miss their trip to Real Sociedad on Sunday night.
The Catalan giants held off competition from Chelsea in order to secure the signing of Kounde from Sevilla last month, in a deal worth £46m.
However, Kounde is still not able to make his competitive debut for the club - with Xavi's side still yet to register him in their domestic league.
The Catalan giants activated their fourth and final financial lever to allow new signings Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen all to be registered for last weekend's stalemate draw with Rayo Vallecano.
However, Kounde was forced to watch from the sidelines as his new team-mates made their Barcelona debuts in front of a sell-out Camp Nou.
There are hopes in amongst Barca fans that the imminent sale of Samuel Umtiti to Italian side Lecce might be enough to allow the club to register Kounde.
Barca need to comply with LaLiga's salary cap rules to register Kounde, and potential sales of strikers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Memphis Depay could make this possible.
However, both players have been included in the squad that will travel to Sociedad for Sunday's game - throwing doubt over their potential exits.
Xavi commented on this and re-affirmed that the club's main concern is registering their French defender.
The Barca boss said: 'Auba and Memphis are still here, so tomorrow we will use them. But the priority is to register Kounde.'
