The curling effort from Toni Kroos that directed Germany to a 95th-minute winner over Sweden at the World Cup has won the German FA's goal of the year award.

It was a strike that helped his side to a 2-1 win and that renewed their hopes of qualification for the last 16, something they ultimately failed to do.

It came when Marco Reus rolled a free-kick into the path of Kroos who curled it expertly into the far corner beyond the reach of Robin Olsen.

According to the federation, the Real Madrid midfielder won with 68.8 percent of the vote for the goal of the year, meaning over 12,000 fans voted for it.

In second place was Julian Brandt for his strike against Peru in Sinsheim on September 9 with 13.6 percent of the vote and Thomas Muller's goal in the friendly against Spain in March completed the podium with 10.5 percent.
